What is OpenNord?
OpenNord is a free, open-source app for Nord® keyboards. It runs in the browser and as a desktop app for macOS and Windows. An iPad app is in progress.
It can:
- Open program files and show their settings: piano or sample, organ, synth, effects, keyboard split and the samples the program uses. You don’t need the keyboard or Nord Sound Manager for this.
- Keep a library of the programs, presets, samples and pianos in a folder, in single files you import, or on a connected keyboard.
- Play samples and pianos on an on-screen keyboard or a MIDI keyboard, and export samples to WAV.
- Copy programs to and from the keyboard over USB, and back the keyboard up.
- Convert a Stage 2 or 3 program into a Stage 4 program.
What has been tested
Section titled “What has been tested”Everything above has been tested on the Nord Stage 4 and Nord Stage 3. On the Stage 2, reading files and copying from the keyboard have been tested. Nothing has been tested on other models yet. The full table is in Supported instruments.
What it is not
Section titled “What it is not”- It is not made by Nord and not endorsed by them. See Legal.
- It doesn’t share Nord’s sounds. Programs name the factory samples they use; the audio stays with Nord.
- It is beta software. Sending a program to the keyboard replaces what is in that slot. Back up first.
OpenNord is free and its source is on GitHub under the AGPL license.
