Samples
User Samples in the Library holds your .nsmp (oldest), .nsmp3 (Stage
3 era) and .nsmp4 (Stage 4) samples: imported files, files in your folder,
and the samples on a connected Nord.
Add samples
Section titled “Add samples”+ Add › Import a file… (imported samples stay in OpenNord), Choose a folder…, or Build a sample… to make one from your own recordings (Build a sample).
Look at a sample
Section titled “Look at a sample”Open a sample to see its keyboard map, root notes and loops, and the list of recordings (strokes) it holds.
Play it
Section titled “Play it”- Play on the on-screen keyboard, or press Connect MIDI keyboard and play from a MIDI keyboard (Chrome or Firefox on a computer, the desktop app, or the iPad app).
- Unison (Off, 1, 2, 3) and Envelope (attack, decay, sustain, release) are for listening here only; they are not saved in the sample.
Edit the keyboard map
Section titled “Edit the keyboard map”Under Edit · Keyboard map, change root notes and splits (and on newer files velocity, gain, detune and the name), then Save edited copy. Your original stays as it was.
The oldest .nsmp files can be read-only: convert them to .nsmp3 or
.nsmp4 first, then edit that.
Convert and export
Section titled “Convert and export”- Convert makes an
.nsmp4,.nsmp3or.nsmpcopy for another generation of Nord. These are marked “Experimental: not yet tried on a Nord”. - Make it a piano turns a sample into a
.npnopiano (experimental). - WAV on a stroke downloads that recording; Export all (.zip) downloads every one.
- Save to computer downloads the sample file itself.
Factory samples can be opened and played too. They stay on your device; OpenNord never shares them.
Free up space on your Nord
Section titled “Free up space on your Nord”With a Nord connected:
- Press Find unused samples: OpenNord checks which samples no program on the keyboard uses. Unused only lists them.
- Select the ones to remove and press Delete from Nord. The dialog says how much space it frees.
- Tick Save a copy to a folder first to keep them.
Factory samples you delete can be downloaded again from Nord’s library.
